In 1976, the Corps of Engineers began work on the Applegate Lake Dam, which was finished in 1980. The dam formed the Applegate Lake which sits near the Oregon-California border in the Siskiyou National Forest. The lake is located 27 miles away from Medford, Oregon.

The lake offers multiple activities for all lakegoers. There are three camping sites located near the lake with varying amenities. The Hart-Tish Park & Campground has tent sites and RV sites for camping. It also has a paved boat ramp and a general store for camping supplies and other goods. Across from the parking lot is a slopping green hill perfect for a day picnic and a swim.

Jackson Campground has tent camp sites, each with a fire pit, a bar-b-que pit, and parking. There is also a large day use area with picnic tables and two swimming areas. Watkins Campground is a more secluded dry camping area with tent only camping sites.

Seattle Bar is the best place on the lake to enjoy the sun. There is a vast green lawn, picnic areas, and great swimming. It is a day use only area.

There are also multiple hiking and biking trails surrounding the lake. Fishing, boating, kayaking, and paragliding are among other activities enjoyed on the lake.
